5 Things to Check On Your Roof This Spring
As well as enjoying the beautiful weather, we also welcome our spring cleaning lists. Though it may not be the first thing that comes to your mind, your roof is something that should be added to your spring cleaning list. Here are five things to get inspected on your roof as we settle into Spring and Summer.
Shingles
First and foremost you want to have someone inspect your shingles. for any missing, damaged, or worn shingles. It’s common for shingles to incur tears or cracks during the winter months due to cold weather, ice, and snow.
Gutters
During the harsh winter season, gutters can get filled with debris and other things. Make sure to have your roofers inspect those to make sure they are clean and running smoothly.
Flashing
Homeowners often overlook flashing, but it’s still an important part of your roofing system. It is the thin material installed around critical areas of your roof that directs water away and prevents leaks and water damage. If your gutters incurred any buildup or damage over the winter, restricted water flow could have caused damage to your flashing. Make sure your roofers are inspecting this.
Chimney
If you have a home with a chimney, it’s important to make sure they are clean even if you aren’t using them. Your roofer will inspect to make sure there aren’t any stains leading to leakage or damage.
Attic
While not all homes have attics, if yours does it’s important to have it inspected. After you’ve finished checking everything on your roof’s exterior, you’ll want to head inside and see if your roof’s interior has incurred any damage.
